We see these horrible events and we should upset by them. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, children - families all over the world - are suffering from natural disasters, famine and war....and I don't think it's that we never knew (we've always known because the media has always been there) it's because we've always been TOO SAFE and it's never happened to us.
Switzerland isn't on top of active fault lines where an impending earthquake could destroy a city.
Switzerland is a land locked country do it doesn't have a delta/ocean that could rise up and swallow cities.
Switzerland isn't affected by hurricanes, typhoons, tornadoes, cyclones, blizzards like other countries are.
We're just so safe - people just don't think it will ever happen to them. And if some freak storm ever did come our way, this country, (fortunately), had the funds to build solid infrastructure, could feed it's people and obviously doesn't have the political, poverty and population problems that Burma and China have.
If you don't think you can help the Chinese or the Burmese - think again, there are hundreds of organizations out there willing to take donations to get people clean water, mosquito nets, food, shelter....no matter how small your donation is, just know you played a part in helping these people rebuild their lives after being stripped to the ground.
